Zermatt and the Matterhorn

I was so excited when we pulled into Zermatt.  It was overcast, but we saw most of the Matterhorn.

Our cute little place was called the Primavera.  The room actually had two beds.  However, the elevator only had room for one person and one suitcase.

The river went right through town.
Downtown Zermatt
Thursday morning we got up early to take another cogwheel train to get a closer look at the Matterhorn and glaciers.  We went on one of the first trains up for the day, around 8:00 am.

I took this picture through the window.  I'm glad I did because by the time we got to the top, clouds were moving in.
Glaciers are frozen rivers.

The clouds moved in quickly.  Eventually they completely covered the glaciers and Matterhorn.

We waited at the top for I think three hours.  It didn't look like it was going to lift.  We headed down on the train.  At one stop we decided to get off and hike the rest of the way.

Once at the bottom it looked like the fog was going to lift so we started another hike.  This cloud did not want to go away.

The cloud was still clinging to the Matterhorn.
Finally, around 5:00 in the afternoon we got to see the whole mountain.  Isn't it amazing?
