Washington DC Temple and Mount Vernon-Friday

November 25

Friday morning we left to the Washington DC temple. It is actually in Maryland. The drive was very pretty. It is very wooded. We drove past the city that Sara works in. We didn't go through a session instead we did sealings.

The grounds are very pretty. As you approach the temple you drive through lots of trees. I imagine the leave change is amazing. Most of the trees had lost their leaves.

Sara and Mike's place is very cute. It is in a very friendly neighborhood.

After we changed and had lunch we headed to Mt. Vernon. The drive along the GW Parkway was very enjoyable. Sara and Mike have gone on a bike ride through this area. The suggested we park a short way from Mt. Vernon and walk. What a great idea. Once we got to Mt. Vernon we were glad we had walked. The parking was really crowded.

See!! Wayne can do his famous pose anywhere.

I thought the house in Mt. Vernon would be decorated. Just the visitor's center had festive decorations.

We walked down to the dock on the Potomac River. Just imagine walking on the same ground as George Washington. As we walked around his house and land we learned some interesting things. He considered himself a farmer. He tried many new things to help make crops grow better. He had a seven year crop rotation schedule. This allowed the ground to be healthier.

He created a sixteen sided barn. This allowed the horses to walk around in a circle to step on the wheat stalks. The wheat seeds then fell through the cracks to the room below. It made for an easier way to harvest the wheat.

Our return walk to the car gave us this sunset. I really enjoy colorful sunsets. In the evening we had the chance to walk around Alexandria. It a cute little city. We did some shopping. We were told that Pres. Obama also shopped here for his girls' Christmas presents.
