London and the Olympics

Wayne and I  traveled back to England with Tanya and the girls.  The Olympics had already started.  We had hoped to get to see at least one event.  When we realized that wasn't going to happen we tried to get into the Olympic Park.  We chose the wrong day.  The field events had already started and the area was only open to those with tickets.  We were able to walk around several of the venues.

Basketball and gymnastics took place at the O2.

Wayne and I walked around Tower Bridge the first night.  We were hoping the Olympic rings would be down down.  Out of lucky again.
This was one of the Olympic mascots.  I'm still not sure what it is suppose to be.  Ask Wayne, he has an explanation.

Tim and Tanya live in Greenwich.  It recently became a Royal Borough.  The park they play in was used for the equestrian events.  It also houses the ship the Cutty Sark.

This is what we saw while walking through Greenwich.

The tents were part of the equestrian venue.

Saturday we tried to get into the Olympic park.  We were escorted away from the area.  I had to work fast to get these pictures.

We were glad we were walking away from this crowd.  All these people were going to the Olympic Stadium.

The beach volleyball competition took place where the horses usually get ready for the changing of the guard.  They set up this stadium on the horse guard parade area.  All of Green Park was closed off for volleyball.
Even Buckingham Palace was off limits. Marathons and cycling went past this area.
As were drove out of town to explore other parts of England we had a very short glimpse of the stadium.

The morning of the day we were going back to California the sun came out and it was quite hot.  We took one last walk in Greenwich.  We visited the Cutty Sark area again.
