St Eustache

This lovely church was right across the street from our apartment. We had a great view of it from our windows. We walked past it several times on our way to the underground.

It was built between 1532 and 1642. Its front facade resembles Notre Dame's large transept. Its outside stonework does look unfinished. When I got up close I thought it looked like it needed a cleaning. That it what gives it its charm.

I wish I could have found out more about this statue that is in its courtyard.

I went inside and someone was practicing the organ. The sound was beautiful. I learned that it has over 8,000 pipes. The organ was used by composers Franz Listz and Berlioz.

It was considered the church of royalty because its proximity to the Royal Palace at the Louvre.

Also, the apartment was right next door to a huge mall, Les Halles. It had construction work going on so we didn't get the true effect of the mall. I saw a picture of what it looks like when it isn't being worked on. It is gorgeous.
