Day 6
August 8
As you can see from this next picture that we enjoyed beautiful blue skies this day. We took the subway to the Montmartre section of Paris. I remember this underground stop had a set of really windy stairs. It kept going around and around. Once we were out of the underground it wasn't long before we see this beautiful building, Basilique du Sacre- Coeur.
Off to the side is a funiculaire that takes you to the top of the stairs. We decided we would ride up. We took time to walk around and explore the inside.
All the views of this building are amazing.

It was fun to walk through the streets of the neighborhood. The buildings are close together and look like the way I visualize Paris in my head. Fortunately our walk was down hill.
This area of Paris is known for its artists. We stopped and watched some of them as they were painting. I would have loved to have bought a painting from one of them.
As we continued our walk we saw many cute shops and restaurants.
I thought this was a cute picture. Tanya takes really good pictures. She is very artistic in the different shots she takes.
After walking around to find Moulin Rouge which was a disappointment we headed back to the Ile de la Cite where we got to see Sainte-Chapelle. It was created by the same man that created Notre Dame. Notre Dame is over 850 years. Sainte-Chapelle is older. Wayne and I remember it being close to 1000 years old. Notre Dame took 200 years to build, Sainte Chapelle took only 6 years. The stain glass windows are the best I have ever seen. They are fantastic as the light shines through. Along with the thin columns this room is stunning.
I was able to take a better picture of Sainte-Chapelle's Rose window. Notre Dame's window is too high, so the pictures just come out blurry.
The wall paintings were amazing to look at as well.
Almost next door is the Conciegerie. It was used as a prison during the French Revolution. One of its famous guests was Marie Antoinette. She stayed her before her execution. By this time of the day we had done a lot of walking. We went back to our apartment.
